S Club 7 Star Paul Cattermole Dead at Age 46
In a statement released by his family, it was announced that Paul Cattermole, former member of the popular British pop group S Club 7, has been found dead at his Dorset home yesterday, Thursday 6th April 2023.
The shock news has left fellow members of the band in shock and grief, with S Club 7 band members and management telling of the “horror and disbelief”. Paul had recently confirmed that he was to take part in a planned S Club 7 band reunion later this year.
Paul’s family said that he was found in his Dorset home on Thursday and shortly afterwards was pronounced dead. Whilst no cause of death has been released, Dorset Police confirm no suspicious circumstances surround his death.
Paul Cattermole entered the music scene in 1999 when he joined S Club 7 alongside Tina Barrett, Jo O’Meara, Bradley McIntosh, Hannah Spearritt, Rachel Stevens, and Jon Lee. S Club 7 went on to achieve massive success, selling over 10 million records worldwide, and quickly establishing themselves as a beloved fixture in the UK pop scene.
With their catchy upbeat tunes, colourful music videos, and infectious personalities, S Club 7 quickly became a favourite among young audiences. And in the midst of it all was Paul Cattermole, known for his boyish good looks and energetic stage presence, which contributed in no small measure to the band’s success, despite his own musical tastes being elsewhere than the mainstream pop of the heavily produced band.
Musical and creative differences saw Paul leave the band in 2002, aiming to pursue a career in metal with his band Skua. Paul and his former band had recently repaired the rift between them, with The Mail reporting in March of this year that he and fellow band member Hannah Spearritt were once again on good terms. Prior to joining the band, Paul had been childhood friends then later in a relationship between 2001 and 2006 with Hannah, who is said to be inconsolable at the shock news.
The sudden loss of Paul Cattermole has come as a shock to his fans, friends, and family, especially since the singer had a major reunion tour with S Club 7 in the works. The band had announced their reunion tour to launch in October 2023, the announcement made just weeks before Paul’s passing. Since the news of his death broke, heartfelt messages from fellow musicians, celebrities, and fans have poured in, expressing their condolences and remembering the former S Club 7 star.
A statement requesting that Paul’s family and former band mates are afforded privacy at this sad time.
