Claire Goose as Casualty’s “Sexy Nurse” Tina Seabrook, the TV Nurse Who Set Pulses Racing
Tina Seabrook is a fictional character from the BBC medical drama Casualty, played by Claire Goose. She made her first appearance during the twelfth series episode “Give My Love to Esme”, which was broadcast on 11 September 1997. Tina was introduced as a staff nurse in Holby City Hospital’s emergency department, as a replacement for Jude Kocarnik. The character of Tina was Claire’s first major TV role; she having previously appeared in minor supporting roles and bit-parts in both The Bill and Eastenders. Goose spent a day at a real-life hospital while researching her character’s occupation. Tina’s character was portrayed as being feisty, bubbly, confident, and a bit naive.
Tina’s confident attitude was undermined when she was raped by a patient’s husband. Her recovery was slow and difficult, but helped by the arrival of fellow junior nurse, Chloe Hill, who brought optimism and fun back to Tina’s life. However, their friendship was shattered when Tina discovered Chloe had slept with her boyfriend, trainee doctor Sean Maddox. Tina tried to patch things up with Sean, but then learned Chloe was pregnant with his child.
Tina’s relationship with Sean was further complicated when he was diagnosed with cancer. Tina supported Sean through his treatment, but they eventually broke up when he decided to move to Australia for a new job. Tina was left heartbroken, and left Holby to follow Sean to Australia in a move that saw her stranded in the outback in a departure story line which was branded as “nonsense” and an “anti climax” for a character previously strong, popular and at the centre of more gritty episodes.
